Expanding the team
Our team is expanding rapidly. Over the summer we have had junior positions open for "hell week" testing purposes but these days we can easily said: everyone has shown great potentials.
Both our teams, IT in Kranj HQ and multimedia in PE Ljubljana, have been growing, succeeding, failing and expanding together since the beginning of 3fs early days. Over the summer we have expanded our bandwidth to a degree that we were capable to invite junior developers into our pipeline and into the world of web social technologies, multimedia research and telecom ecosystems. And, truly honestly, all of the candidates performed way beyond our expectations. So, hats off guys!
Our industry all over the world lacks capable, trustworthy and creative developers. Not just Slovenia, not just eastern/central europe and not just EU as such. Everywhere we go, there is a visible difference between offer and demand. So the biggest question is, how to be successful in attracting web oriented programmers?
We have tried many things: advertising, milestone bonuses, really fantastic working environment, show-off equipment and even relocation of our development team. Of course, results were visible, but not (IOHO) to a degree that we would be pleased. Advertising is usually expensive and results are foggy. Milestone salary bonuses are cool, but mostly cool for the existing people and not something that a candidate would understand correctly or even appreciate when in the decision zone. Show-off equipment actually produced some results, but its just hardware (in various forms). Relocation resulted in almost nothing. So what happened in the last months or so? What changed in our philosophy that attracted so many capable youngsters?
3 things in our humble opinion:
- existing people are true rock stars. The best at what they do, true to company philosophy and overall just great guys and girl(s).
- a sum of the above ways of attracting people and in-house education that we started practicing almost a year ago.
- existing projects are true people magnets. When candidates see what we do, they can be either scared to death or challenged to death. Both things happened, but challenge won. Lucky for us.
But perhaps one thing happened: company values finally produced wanted results.
And all this collided over the summer. Is it going to last? Sure not. Competition in Slovenia is damn fierce. People are more and more demanding. Especially seniors raised outside of our company values. So what to do? ThirdFrameStudios needs to start organized educational courses with highest standards possible and a guarantee end results: educated, capable and totally technology literate graduates, ready to crash the industry from day one. And this is exactly what we will do. Alone or in collaboration with local communities, competition and existing educational institution. So stay tuned. Wired.
